Are you team coffee or team matcha? Wait, don't answer yet. Let's review the basics first...

No Caffeine Overload

First thing's first. One serving of matcha contains about half the amount of caffeine of an espresso shot and one third the amount of caffeine of a cup of coffee.  However, with 34mg of caffeine in one serving, there is fortunately not enough caffeine in matcha to promote production and excretion of cortisol, the body's stress and fat storage hormone. 

No Jitter / No Crash

Caffeine in matcha digests differently in your body than caffeine in coffee.  It's more of a synergistic process when it comes to matcha.  Let's take the catechins for example.  As matcha is digested, caffeine molecules bind to more stable larger molecules, such as catechins.  This binding slows the breakdown of caffeine in the bloodstream, which counteracts the usual negative side effects of caffeine.  When there is no caffeinated jolt to the system, there is no spike in the body's insulin, adrenaline and glucose levels. This means there is also no jitter and no crash.  Just a 4-6 hour sense of sustained energy.  Additionally, matcha has important amino acids.  One in particular, L-Theanine, stimulates the production of alpha wave activity in the brain, resulting in this incredible state of calm alertness.  Calm + alert = better caffeine high!

Radiant Skin

Matcha is rich in antioxidants ... significantly more so than coffee.  As the body's cleanup crew, antioxidants provide protection from harmful free radicals, which are the molecules responsible or aging and tissue damage.  Thus, with matcha's powerful antioxidant activity, a daily dose can keep your skin staying young and beautiful as ever.

Freshhhh Breath

We all know what coffee breath smells like. Stale, nauseating and downright offensive.  Fortunately though, matcha contains compounds that are called polyphenols, which have been shown to prevent the growth of bacteria that cause bad breath.  No more coffee breath?  Yes Please!

A Mindful Moment

Nothing compares to the mindful process of preparing and sipping your matcha.  It's truly soothing for the mind, body and soul.  The process gives you an excuse to sip up and Zen out, as we like to say.  To just take a short pause and set your mind straight before the day's next moment.  Plus, let's be honest, it's easier and quicker than brewing a cup of coffee (especially if you use our comprehensive set). And by the way, how fun is whisking?!

Green Is Good

If nothing else, subconsciously or consciously, you have to admit that it feels a lot healthier to drink a vibrant green liquid than a (fill in your own adjective) brown one :) 

Conclusion

We would never tell you that you have to quit your beloved daily cup of Joe.  We just feel compelled to tell you that there IS a healthier alternative out there.  And it's called matcha.  So go on ... give it a whisk!
